The Graces, The Divine Sisters, The Queens of Song: No matter what you call them, these goddesses’ presence in Greek mythology alluded to joy, fun, strength and beauty. They were the embodiment of aesthetic appeal and spiritual power. Plucked right out of Botticelli’s rendition of The Graces, Ruth Robles, Elaine Berkowitz, and Kelley Werner believe that today’s goddesses embody the same ideal, and the success of their empowering creation, Go Goddess!, proves that they are not alone.

The concept and game, Go Goddess!, was created by the trio in 1997 after years of intimate discussions, meditation, and exercises of self-discovery. Originally, Robles, Werner, and Berkowitz formed a friendship out of a common desire to help their community, but soon discovered that their bond went way beyond their ambition to make a difference. While enthusiastically fundraising for various charities together, the three began to share their tribulations with facing the challenges of balancing children, husbands, households, friends, and careers. They suddenly began to realize that giving so much of themselves left them craving for some personal downtime and insight.

“We felt the need to grow spiritually,” says Ruth, a 48-year-old film producer. “There needed to be a reconnect.”

With five other avid female fundraisers, they formed a small group of friends that began to meet regularly for conversation, dinner, and meditation. They honored these meetings as a time to share, laugh, cry, and unwind, and they quickly noticed a difference in their everyday lives. Feeding off of one another’s inspiration, they each became more confident, driven, and at peace with themselves.

One day, they playfully called themselves The Goddess Group, and the name stuck ever since. The Goddess Group still meets regularly until this day and has expanded into a strong support group of about thirty girlfriends, all of whom check their judgments at the door twice a month. According to Ruth, “Women love to get together. Especially when it’s a positive, supportive, and fun environment.”

That’s why Ruth, Elaine, and Kelley, with their entrepreneurial savvy, joined forces to take the ritual to the next level. True to their altruistic natures, the three conceived a game to encourage all women to come together and share their life experiences.

“Our desire is to share our own personal growth experience to empower, enlighten, and enrich women worldwide,” explains Ruth. “The goal of Go Goddess! is to inspire open, honest communication. The type that is only possible when women get together and really talk.”
