I found my first gray hair at 16. What should have been a small, forgettable thing turned into something I couldn’t stop thinking about. I was just trying to be a normal teenager, hang out with friends, not worry about how I looked, but instead I was having to stealthily commit to root touch-ups every 2 weeks. It became a real insecurity, one I carried quietly for years.
I started to embrace the gray at 24, which still surprises people. Most women who embrace their gray have decades of dyeing, plucking, and covering behind them before they finally make the switch… I figured out early that I didn’t want to spend the next fifty years fighting my own roots, so I skipped the struggle altogether and committed to going gray in my 20’s.
That decision ended up teaching me more about confidence than anything else I’ve done. Growing out my gray didn’t make me feel older, it made me feel like myself for the first time. It sounds dramatic, but I genuinely believe this is who I was always meant to be.
Now I share my hair journey online, partly because I think representation matters, young, gray, and completely at peace with it isn’t a look you see often, and partly because I want other people to know they don’t have to wait.
Growing out my gray didn’t make me feel older, it made me feel like myself for the first time.
If you’ve been wanting to let your gray grow in, or make any change that feels more like you, consider this your sign. Authenticity doesn’t have an age requirement.

After more than 30 years of coloring my hair every three weeks or so, I finally reached a point where I was ready to ditch the dye and reclaim a little piece of myself. I was exhausted by the constant hyper-fixation of wondering whether my gray roots were showing, planning my next time I would…

I used to dye my roots every 2 weeks, religiously. Yet secretly, I admired women with their beautiful gray hair. I looked at pictures online wishing/hoping that I had the “courage” to do it too. One day, after dyeing my hair, I said- this is the last time I’ll do it and that was it.…

I have hated aging for the longest time. Now that I am 58 I choose to embrace it! I see lots of silver goddesses out there and they look amazing! That’s why I decided to embrace my gray. You can look put together, beautiful and distinguished with silver hair.
