Back in September 2000, I had one of those pinch-me moments when OPRAH Magazine featured the launch of my Go Goddess! ‘Girls’ Night In Game.’ Seeing my creation come to life on those iconic pages was beyond thrilling, it was a full-on, heart-bursting out of body experience!
Fast forward twenty-five years and my newest passion project, Go SILVR Goddess, inspired me to open a treasured box of memorabilia I’d lovingly tucked away. Inside? A time capsule of magazine articles, national and local, that reminded me just how far this journey has taken me. (You can peek at them yourself on the Go SILVR Goddess Press Page, they still make me smile!)
Here’s the magical part: right next to my Go Goddess! feature in O Magazine was an article titled “In Search of Hair Happiness.” Seven women of different ages and hair types shared their stories of embracing what is. One woman, proudly gray, said something that stopped me in my tracks:
“I want my gray to say to the world that age is powerful, age is sexy.”
YES! A thousand times yes!
Let’s be honest, women have been wrestling with their hair since the beginning of time. We’ve cut it, grown it, colored it, straightened it, curled it, blown it, brushed it, braided it, permed it, dyed it again (and again)… all in the endless pursuit of “perfection.” No wonder hair carries so much emotional weight! Along with body image, it’s one of the few things we feel we can control, so we obsess.
But here’s the real question: what is all that control costing you?
At some point, many of us experience a gentle awakening, or a glorious aha! moment, when we decide to stop fighting what’s growing on our heads and start celebrating it instead. When we release the struggle, something beautiful happens.
We soften. We shine. We fall in love, sometimes for the very first time, with every single silver strand.
That, my friends, is Hair Happiness.
